HOW TO HOLD MY DSLR FOR PORTRAITS & HOW TO TAKE DOUBLE EXPOSURE PORTAITS
How to Hold my Camera When Taking Portraits
I checked out creativeLIVE for the first time, watching glimpses of their Experimental Portraitsworkshop when I could. (What I saw was fantastic, and I'll be purchasing the workshop tomorrow.)
And while there's all kinds of great information regarding lighting, posing, composing, directing and all that, the simplest thing I learned is how to hold a DSRL while taking portraits.
I've been rotating my camera counterclockwise. And why not? That's how you turn your camera when you add a battery grip. But the reality is that Lara Jade held her camera the other way, but turning the camera clockwise with the shutter button at the bottom.
As soon as I saw that, it made sense. The camera is steadier, my right eye can stay at the viewfinder, and now my left hand is free to manually zoom or focus.
How to Take Double Exposures
It's easy to see why DigitalRevTV is the number one photography YouTube Channel. (Or so they claim, I haven't checked the numbers myself.) It has an ethnically Chinese host with a British accent who has lots of charisma and injects each video with information and humor. Sometimes Kai's a bit much, but the How to Do Double Exposure Portraits is great. It's quick and to the point, and by the end of the six-minutes you'll know the basics of how to get a double exposure done.
