FIRST DSLR. FIRST PIC.
Who knew the airport could be so pretty? Not me.
The Canon 70D was announced July 2nd, pre-ordered July 4th, and arrived August 29th. This was taken the next day, and my view on photography was changed.
What were my goals when I pre-ordered my camera? I didn't really have any. I just wanted to capture great pics for my personal satisfaction. I expected to take lots of pics of cats and animals, landscapes, and night shots.
Then I take my friends to the airport, snap this pic as they head off to Vegas, and my eyes were shown such a wonderfully happy accident. The lines, reflections, arrangement of the luggage, matching color scheme between my friends and the background... it all came together so well. I was just trying to get full body shots with the terminal sign in the background. And while the blue cast across the building a walkway is beautiful, it would have a distant feeling to it. It's the people that really make this picture complete.
My only wish is that I could go back and set up a reflector to get some light on their faces. But who does that when taking people to the airport? Especially when that lift was unplanned when I got out of bed and left the house? As I gain more experience with Lightroom, this is one of the shots I'll keep on returning to to get it just right.
Getting a point-and-shoot in my hands back in March is what sparked the desire for a DSLR, but this pic changed my view on photography as a whole. No need to limit myself to just a couple photography niches. It's time to go out and see it all.
